THE ISLAND HEIGHTS ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE
The Environmental Committee shall provide the governing body
with information & recommended actions pertaining to
the betterment of the environment

MISSION STATEMENT

Early this year Mayor Siddons and Council assembled a group of residents concerned with the environmental issues confronting our great town. The purpose of the Committee is to make recommendations to Council regarding what measures can be taken to protect the environmental health and ecological heritage of our community.

At its early beginnings environmental protection was viewed as a luxury and environmentalism was portrayed as a fringe movement. However, as we experience global warming and the troubling effects of storm water run-off on the health of our surrounding waterways, it's more apparent than ever that protecting the environment is a real global concern which must be addressed at every level. After all, what good is boating when the water is too unhealthy to swim or fish? What good is owning a waterfront home when it overlooks an unusable river and bay? What will happen to our property values if the water that surrounds Island Heights becomes even more polluted? Just ask the residents who were forced to endure the chemical dumping of the 60's and 70's. Simply put, the health, safety and welfare of Island Heights is and always will be directly related to the cleanliness our environment. Our goal is to protect your property rights as we address the environmental issues that affect us all.
